Year: 2009
Awarded to: Martin Woodward

Martin Woodward was born and has lived all his life in the city of Worcester apart from two years in Singapore with his parents while his father was serving in the RAF. Married to Jane since 1971, who is a keen cricket supporter, he has worked for a large mail order firm in charge of bad debt until taking early retirement in 2001. Since then he has been playing cricket most days during the season with frequent overseas cricket tours in the winter.

Martin Joined Droitwich Spa C.C. in 1967 and still plays both Saturday and Sunday to date with no signs of stopping yet, in fact numbers of games seems to be increasing with age!!

Starting as a left hand opening batsman and during his peak holds the club record with1450 runs during the 1976 season, more recently he has turned his hand to becoming a miserly right arm ‘off-spin’ bowler. His gully area fielding was also legendary and up to county class for many years.

Captain for the Saturday first team in the 1970’s and more recently was Sunday first team captain playing in the Worcestershire County Sunday League and winning the championship in 2004,2005 and runners up in 2006.

Typically when Martin was recalled into the Saturday first team for the 2009 season he took over fifty wickets in helping Driotwich Spa C.C. win the Worcestershire County League Div 2 title and obtain promotion back into division 1.

Martin is now Vice-Chairman of Driotwich Spa CC and almost single handedly redecorated the pavilion last spring which took many hours and tins of paint and he is also Saturday 2nd XI captain during his spare time!

Martin also plays frequently as an all rounder for Worcester Seniors (50+ and 60+), the Forty Club and a local team The Fossils.
