< go back to list

Year: 2009
Awarded to: Luke Brown

Luke joined the club as a keen 13 year old in 2001 when the club had no junior representative sides and played regularly as an aspiring left arm bowler in the Sunday 2nd XI. He became an integral part of the side and a regular at the club attending all the matches (even when not playing) and social events.

On the field Luke's game has progressed year on year and has now developed into a left hand opening batman with solid defence and improving stroke play. He is now scoring runs regularly with a number of 50's and recently scored his maiden 100. Due to his enthusiasm both on and off the field, Luke was nominated on to the Committee as our Junior representative in 2004, a role he filled until last year having advanced from fizzy pop to fizzy lager at University!

In tandem with his role as junior representative, Luke started to take a more active role in coaching within our junior set up achieving his level 2 qualification in early 2009. He was then appointed coach of the under 11's, a very important role and one he has excelled in throughout the year to the delight of all our coaches, for whom his enthusiasm, cheerfulness and innovative ideas have been a breath of fresh air. He's also attended the majority of under 13's and under 15's matches lending his support and technical advice to the youngsters and is more than happy to do a stint as umpire!

In addition, Luke has captained the Sunday 1st XI since 2008, a role which has taken on more importance given the number of young players progressing through to senior cricket. The young players look up to Luke as both a coach and captain which has made for an easy transition from junior to adult cricket and his approachable manner has made all of them feel most comfortable and welcome.

Luke is an outstanding example to all our young players and his contribution to the club, during our 80th Anniversary year, in helping to develop our next generation has been invaluable.

Everyone at Weoley Hill is delighted that he has received recognition for his hard work and congratulates him on receiving his award.
