MCCC Under 21 Cricketer Of The Year

< go back to list

Year: 2011
Awarded to: Gerard Morley

Gerard Morley is a forceful right handed middle order batman, who was a First Team regular in both 2010 and 2011, always batting in the top 5 of what is a strong batting line up.

During 2011, Gerard scored 1043 runs for Weoley Hill, at an average of 30.68, with a top score of 126 from just 68 balls. 2011 was the third time in 4 years that Gerard scored more than 1000 runs in the season for the Club.  He scored just under 700 runs in 2010 but was hampered by a broken leg suffered fielding in mid- season.

In addition, he led the stats for catches (excluding wicketkeepers), taking 15 catches in 2011.

Gerard’s contribution has also significantly increased off the field during 2011. As a Level 1 coach, he regularly assists with the coaching of our expanding Junior Section on Tuesday evenings and now runs and captains the development side on Wednesday evenings.

Gerard is also turning his hand to groundwork and, in his spare time, is often assisting with the preparation of wickets, the square and outfield at both the main ground and the 3rd XI ground.

As well as these activities, Gerard is keen to assist with the administration of the Club and has recently been elected to the post of Junior representative on the Club’s management Committee and took on the task of ordering the Club’s new playing kit in 2011.

Gerard was educated at King Edward VI Five Ways Grammar School where he captained the school side to victory in the Docker Shield and is currently studying Human Geography at Sheffield Hallam University.

2011 has been a progressive year for the club and Gerard has been at the forefront of both playing and junior cricket throughout.
