Leslie Jones Secretarial Trophy

< go back to list

Year: 2011
Awarded to: Lesley Hopkins

Lesley started scoring for the Club in 1979 and was soon asked to take minutes at Committee meetings when the Club Secretary was ill. At the 1981 AGM her position as Secretary was ratified and she has continued in both roles to date.

During the 1980s Lesley was asked to become the secretary for the Playing Fields Association who is effectively T&SCC’s landlords. She fulfilled this role, along with Club work, at a time when minutes were handwritten with a fountain pen into a large leather bound book which had minutes going back to the 1940s. Lesley was able to hand over this task after a few years.

During the mid 2000s again after filling in for illness Lesley became Secretary to the Shropshire Cricket League until Club promotion to the Shropshire Premier League necessitated her resignation from the role. In 2004 Lesley received an MCCC Player of the Year administration award.

As well as all the secretarial duties for Trysull & Seisdon Lesley has been involved in all aspects of club work. She has over the years prepared teas, helped with ground preparation, bowled, batted and fielded during league and friendly matches and represented Trysull & Seisdon on administrative committees. In fact she maintains that the only thing she has not done for the Club is to keep wicket!

Outside Club and League work Lesley has served in the past as Deputy Scorer’s Officer for ACU&S after passing the scorers exam in 1984 and she has been both Treasurer and Chairman of the Urostomy Association Birmingham Branch. Lesley continues to serve as Treasurer for Wolverhampton NASUWT a post she has held since 1995.
