Match Report

With heavy rain falling the previous day and a poor weather forecast it was encouraging that the match was able to start at the scheduled time. Conference fielded some new players to their line up and began the match fielding against a good Worcs team. W .Wade and J.Johal opened the batting and against some steady  bowling by D.Jade-Richter and J.Oakley, gradually built a solid partnership. When W.Wiffen came in, he after progressing cautiously, started to play some good shots and saw the 100 up with W.Wade, who unfortunately was then out just short of his half century. Despite I.Allen and  M.Akeel bowling steadily and taking wickets ,the disciplined approach by all the Worcs batsmen was to be applauded. Good running between the wickets and controlled hitting saw the run rate quickly accelerate. Wiffen went through to a well made half century and the lower order batsmen, in particular C.Lea who hit several excellent shots to the boundary, ensured that the Worcs total was very competitive in the conditions. Conference bowling and fielding was competent but probably too many wides were bowled which didn't help in containing the total they had to chase.

As the players came off the field at the end of the first innings the rain which had been forecast ,started to fall and never stopped making the umpires decision to abandon the match a formality.

Stourbridge CC are again to be thanked for their work in getting the game started on time , preparing a good pitch and their excellent hospitality.
