Match Report

With a somewhat depleted side Conference faced the MCC on a warm and pleasant day at Walsall Cricket Club.

Batting first the MCC started at a brisk pace with OJ Steel (46) and D Cox (44) putting on 68 for the first wicket and steady contributions from WS Jones (42) M Powell (45 not out) and A Lloyd (30) enabled the MCC to reach 244 for 5 wickets in their 50 overs. Z Smith (Wombourne) was the pick of Conference bowlers taking 3 for 57 in his 10 overs.

The pitch was proving rather slow but in response the Conference had a whirlwind start with A Rahimi  (Swansea) scoring 32 in 22 balls received. Laeq Chishti (Penkridge) continued the good start but when he was adjudged LBW for 27 there followed a  collapse of the middle order with four wickets falling for twelve runs. D Malan (Sutton Coldfield) with 49 and Z Smith (21) did their best to repair the damage and at one time it looked as though they might pull off an improbable win, but it was not to be with Malan last man out, his 49 being the top score in the match. For the MCC  N Anderson bowled superbly to take 5 for 24 in 8.4 overs. Conference being bowled out for 178 in the 44th over. MCC won by 66 runs.
