Match Report

MCCC  v   CCC

Conference  had a very close match against Club Cricket Conference which went to the last over when,  with three balls left, all results were possible.

Batting first the London team enjoyed a brisk start of 49 in eight overs before the first wicket fell. Tight bowling particularly by Malan of Sutton Coldfield, and Shilar and Shah, both of Penkridge brought down the scoring rate and wickets fell regularly,  with only Elech (57) seemingly comfortable against the MCCC attack.

At 201 for nine wickets  Conference had done all the hard work, or so it seemed. But a last wicket stand  of fifty by Butt (50) and Duke (11 not out), set a much tougher target for the home team.

An early wicket was lost in reply but then an excellent stand of 89 by skipper Laeq Chishti and Chris Calcott (51) of Leamington set Conference on their way. Suliman Hussain (Leamington) scored a belligerent  31, including two sixes but when he was out the later batsmen found it difficult to cope with Butt (4 for 41) and Moriarty (3 for 36). In the meantime Laeq Chishti battled hard to win the game  before the last wicket fell in the last over leaving the Midlanders 6 runs short of a victory with Chishti stranded on 83 not out.

A super game played in excellent spirit. Our thanks to Olton & WW for hosting the match and for their superb catering and facilities.
