Match Report

Inserted by the visitors on a hot and humid day Midlands Conference found it hard going against good accurate swing bowling. After an opening partnership of 44 in 12 overs the next wicket fell at 91 in the 25th over, Istiaq Mohammed scoring a fine 47. Chris Beech (58) and Attiq Chishti (36)  shared a partnership of 86 to take the score to 177 but then a flurry of wickets when Conference needed to score quickly meant that momentum was lost  and a final total of 222 for eight in 50 overs was likely to mean that good tight bowling and keen fielding would be needed to achieve victory. For the visitors Carlton with 3 for 32 bowled extremely well.

The sun did its work on the pitch and outfield making it much more conducive to batting and unfortunately loose bowling and misfields added to the ease in which the CCC were able to set about their task. Positive running between the wickets helped a healthy run-rate and although  skipper Laeq Chishti with  2 for 18 in four overs gave the Midlands some hope a fine knock of 84 not out by opener T Cullen secured victory for the visitors by 5  wickets with two overs to spare.

Our thanks to Barnt Green Cricket Club for the excellent arrangements.
