Match Report

MCCC v Harborne Anniversary Match

Conference is always willing and prepared to offer member clubs who are celebrating a significant anniversary a special match. So, it was that Conference took a side to Harborne for their 150th anniversary.

As part of their 150th Anniversary celebrations Harborne Cricket Club invited Conference to play a 40 overs a-side match.

On a very hot afternoon and played on a superb pitch the hosts batted first and soon put the visitors bowling under pressure and the openers scored 76 in 12 overs before Kumar fell for 24. A stand of 98 in just 15 overs between Mundhe (59) and James Hunt (117) had the Conference fielders diving around trying to stop the onslaught. Hunt’s brilliant century included seventeen 4s and six 6s. After he was out Andy Lloyd (35) and Dan Wright (36 not out) kept the momentum going with the final score finishing on 284 for 5. Of the Conference bowlers only Alex Roslyn (Solihull Municipal) escaped with respectable figures bowling very well to take 1 for 18 in his eight overs. Dinnemy (Four Oaks Saints) also had respectable figures of 0 for 29 in six overs.

In response Conference lost an early wicket but Zac Ahmed (Streetly) and Gary Hawkins (Dorridge) set about the Harborne bowling with a quick-fire stand of 42. After Hawkins was out for 20 skipper Alex Roslyn (31) continued the fightback in a stand of 56. Thereafter only Ahmed with a very good 76 including thirteen 4s and one 6 looked to dominate the bowlers with support from several lower order batters before the final wicket fell at 205, 79 runs short. For Harborne teenage bowlers Grice with 3 for 34 and Kumar also 3 for 34, showed great promise for the future.

Our thanks to Harborne for their hospitality and the excellent ground conditions.
