Solihull School won by 6 wickets

Match Report

Conference was unable to maintain its winning streak against the School losing by 6 wickets in an entertaining game. Batting first, Conference made a disastrous start losing a wicket off the first ball of the match. After that, bat generally dominated ball with Roslyn (69) and Justin Hipkiss (59) both retiring not out. Conference continued to score steadily and declared on 233 for 3 wickets after 40 overs, John Hipkiss remaining undefeated on 52. The School used 7 bowlers with their captain, Talbot-Davies being the most successful taking 2 wickets for 49 off 10 overs.

In reply, the School made a sound start putting on 77 for the first wicket at over 5 an over. A further wicket soon fell but, after that, the School batsmen were rarely under pressure, striking the ball confidently and running well between the wickets. A well-deserved victory was achieved with 3 overs and 6 wickets in hand. For the School, Lankester made 47 but the batting was dominated by Talbot-Davies who was unfortunate not to reach his century, remaining undefeated for an excellent 96. Conference used 7 bowlers but none was able to achieve a consistent line and length. Lethargic fielding did not help, neither did a total of 33 extras.

Thanks go to the School for preparing an excellent wicket and for their generous hospitality throughout the match.
