Match Report

Put in to bat on a damp wicket Conference struggled against  the RAF’s opening  bowlers, including Worcestershire County bowler Cessford, and  regularly lost wickets before the Wednesbury pair of  Solam (51) and Baker 46 not out, steadied the ship. Khalid and Laeq Chishti scored  24 and 40 respectively  before spinner Magee with 4 quick wickets brought the innings to a close at 236 for nine, in 50 overs.

In response the visitors found the bowling of the Chishti brothers, Laeq and Attiq, difficult to handle and together with Khalid, Conference bowlers  put the RAF in grave danger  at 125 for 8 and seemingly heading for a heavy defeat. However at this point bowlers, Magee and Iago, showed their colleagues how to bat and with enterprising cricket put on 95 for the ninth wicket. When Laeq Chishti bowled Iago for 39, sixteen runs were still required for victory and further good batting  saw the RAF to within one run of their target when Ishtiaq bowled a straight one to Magee who pulled across the line and was plumb LBW for 47. A great finish and victory to the Conference by one run.
