Match Report

A lovely day to celebrate the 20th anniversry of the foundation of the Fossils CC was enjoyed by former and current members of the Fossils Club at beautiful Rushwick CC where the Fossils had played their first ever game.

Founder, secretary and captain John Reynolds won the toss and elected to bat. Docker claimed two early wickets and Gilbert and Dean restablished the innings but both were out by the time the score reached 66. Jones and Wood then played excellently and both then retired not out on 45 and 46 respectively. Two more wickets were to fall but Fossils innings ended at the 36 over on 185 for 6. Steve Docker was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 46.

After  a delicious afternoon tea with a an enormous selection of cakes, MCCC batsmen,  replete, set off after the total but wickets fell regularly. A short stoppage for light rain reduced Conference's opportunity and eventually the game petered out to a draw after 20 overs on 95-6 with Cook taking 3 wickets for 33 and Wreford top scoring with 32.

An enjoyable supper after the game was to follow, with photgraphs and speeches and a few moments to recall deceased Fossils members.

Conference presented Fossils with a commemorative plaque and thanks were extended to Rushwick CC for the use of their ground.
