Match Report

This was the fiftieth fixture between Conference and the School and despite the gloomy weather forecast, the predicted rain and snow showers did not materialise.

Batting first, Conference made a steady start but after the loss of the first wicket with 24 on the board, Jakeman and Hawkins put on 94 for the second wicket in quick time, the former being particularly severe on the School’s support bowlers. Both retired with 100 and 54 to their names respectively. That set the basis for a substantial score and with 52 from Roslyn and useful contributions from Boyce and Joseph (both also retired) Conference were bowled out for 286 in the 38th over.

In reply, the School made a steady start putting on 45 for the first wicket. Thereafter, wickets fell at regular intervals and Conference recorded a convincing victory with the School being all out for 142 in the 32nd over. Conference used 8 bowlers and they were ably supported by excellent fielding throughout the innings. The main wicket takers were Joseph (3 for 8) and Vyakaranam (2 for 31).

As this was the fiftieth anniversary of the fixture, Conference presented a trophy to be awarded annually to the School’s man of the match. This year, the umpires decided that E.Brookes should be the recipient for his all round performance and he was presented with the trophy by our President, Ken Lancaster.

Thanks go to the School for preparing an excellent wicket and for their generous hospitality throughout the afternoon.
