Match Report

This match was played at Old Hill CC

MCC batted first on a very warm day and on a wicket that assisted the slow bowlers in particular.

They had a splendid start with Cox(48), Donald (22) and Lambert (25) reaching 117 for the loss of one wicket before James Harris (Aston Manor) bowling slow left arm came on and bowled superblyand finished with figures of 6 – 28. He was well supported by paceman Dylan Ross-Watt of Halesowen who took 3 for 36 and the hosts were bowled out for 216. This would have been considerably less but for  ill disciplined bowling by the seamers which contributed to  an incredible 39 wides.

In response, a steady start by Andy Jones  (Penkridge) and Harry Baddams (Old Hill) saw Conference to 53 for the first wicket, a second wicket fell at 68 before a splendid knock of 44 in 43 balls by Attiq Chishti (Penkridge)  in a stand of 75 with Baddams (40) looked to be setting up Conference for victory.

However the MCC slow bowlers now took charge with Jarvis (5 for 35) decimating the middle order and despite a flurry of fours and sixes Conference lost their last wicket with one ball left and 8 runs short in an enjoyable encounter played in excellent spirit.

A particular word of thanks to the Old Hill caterers who at very short notice put on a most splendid buffet for lunch and to the Old Hill club for staging the game.
