Match Report

Shirley CC were celebrating their 60th Anniversary and Moseley CC had kindly offered them the use of the main ground for the match. Despite rain interruptions at the beginning of the match, a 40 overs per side match was able to be played.

Conference batted first and good tight bowling by S. Coombes and L Crawford restricted run scoring in the first few overs. When A Din and K Din were in partnership the run rate accelerated and a stand of 53 started to build a good total. Captain Giles Clements skilfully batted out the last few overs scoring an excellent half century and with A Snipe and the rest of the batsmen, who scored brisk runs, saw Conference reach a very competitive target. R. Jarvis and D Belfield were Shirley's successful bowlers takinga couple of wickets each.

In reply, Shirley's innings was similar to the Conference one. Tight bowling in the early overs restricted the scoring rate. Then a stand of 53 between A Belfield and S Mockler raised the spirits of Shirley who thought they may have a chance to win, but once they were out the run rate fell off. Although there were some batting cameos by the lower order, wickets started to fall with the last few going cheaply, allowing Conference to win by 26 runs. D Norman, A Snipe ands L Garghan were the succesful bowlers with two wickets a-piece.

The ShirleyCC Committee are to be warmly congratulated on hosting an excellent afternoons cricket and after match hospitality.
